Have you read the Christmas story yet this season? What has surprised you?
Or are you kind of bored of the same old story?
I’ll tell you something, every time I read the Bible I am observing new things that I hadn’t seen before or being given an encouragement to persevere and live in obedience to God.
Reading and listening to the beginning of Jesus’ life makes me think of all the people that Jesus must have impacted- from a few days old until he hung on the cross- such as Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, the Magi, Simeon and Anna, and King Herod. Who are you?
Are you pondering all the things in your heart like Mary? Fearful of where God’s path might lead you like Joseph?
Sitting in awe of God’s revealed word like the shepherds? Giving your best gifts like the Magi?
Persevering in worship and righteousness like Simeon and Anna? Or are you angry for Jesus challenging the control you believe you had like King Herod?
I would encourage you to examine your heart and life in light of the Christmas story in order to give thanks and celebrate that Jesus “moved into the neighborhood” (Jn. 1:14 The Message).
