For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His government and its peace
will never end.
He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David
for all eternity.
The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies
will make this happen!
Have you ever watched videos of people shopping on Black Friday? Some people get really crazy about shopping for Christmas presents, even stealing from others to get what they want. All the hustle and bustle of the holidays cause a lot of stress in people’s lives. This is the opposite of what God wants in our lives and especially how God wants us to be remembering Jesus in the Christmas season.
Isaiah 9:6-7 says that Jesus was born to bring peace- that he is the “Prince of Peace”- and that he rules the universe with fairness and justice. It is in Jesus that we find perfect peace. Jesus is working in our lives to bring a godly peace so we can see that he is working in our lives even when we struggle with issues at home, school, and with friends. One thing you can do everyday is pray that God would help you remember that his peace is always available to you.
Not only does Jesus want to help us have peace with the things going on in our lives, he wants us to have peace inside our hearts. If we trust in Jesus we are citizens in his kingdom that has no end because of the eternal life that is rewarded to us for having faith and obedience to God. Jesus gives us a role in his kingdom to enjoy the peace of his presence. Since Jesus became human he knows all of the struggles we have with finding God’s peace because he experienced every thought, feeling, and temptation that we do- but he was without sin, he was perfect, and relied on God for peace.
I want to invite you to think with me for a minute- what would it look like if you had more peace in your life?
My big idea today: In Jesus is where we find perfect peace. He will guide you every step of the way if you trust him and ask him for help to find peace for your relationship with God and others. I pray that you will know his peace as you celebrate this Christmas season.
