The middle of this month I went on the student retreat for New Wine, New Wineskins Institute for the Theology of Culture where we spent time sharing our stories of what God is doing in our lives to help us follow Christ as we journey into discussing and working on issues of culture that are close to God’s heart. The cultural issue we are discussing this semester is healthcare.
We had a great discussion where people shared the problems they have had with the healthcare system. I even shared my own story with billing nightmares and resolution with a hospital. We also watched Patch Adams, a film starring Robin Williams, where he portrays the beginning of this famous medical doctor, social activist, and clown’s journey to revolutionize the healthcare system. I really enjoyed this movie, not only because it was funny, but because of its depth with thoughts about patient care, the healthcare system, and love.
Whether or not you agree with Obamacare is not the issue of this post, my question is: does the government have the ability on a mass scale to deliver all the promises for the more than 44 million people? How does the church fit into the healthcare debacle? and Why does God care about it? I will write more about this soon.
I’d encourage you to attend the New Wine, New Wineskins conference on October 19th.
