Nehemiah 7: A long list

Before you completely ignore the genealogical listings in chapter 7 I would challenge you to read through it and especially pay attention to the importance of it. Without being listed in this record, those who could have been eligible for priestly service could not attend to their duties. Nehemiah was doing this so he could enlist the people in their services and duties so that the religious culture of Israel could have continuity. These people also helped contribute to the projects and the national treasury.

Much like Nehemiah, it is important that we find our heritage being in God’s family, in the Lamb’s book of life. It is also important that we ask God to be surrounded by others who are in his family because we all have something to contribute to one another whether that is serving together, prayer, or wisdom.

God, help me find people who are able to finance projects to serve others and work for your glory. I need your provision, as many other college students do, to pay off loans and to get a job that would contribute to an income.

I know you are sovereign and that your timing is perfect. Help me to also be surrounded by a community of believers in order to share our burdens, live in community, serve together, pray for one another, and listen to the wisdom you have imparted to elders and other mentors. In Jesus name, Amen.

Let me know what you think!
