The “Lost Generation”…in Syria

I just read an article on Huffington Post about the children of Syria and the risk of long-term effects of the two-year conflict that has torn the country apart.

This quote was enough to bring sorrow to my heart:

“Millions of children inside Syria and across the region are witnessing their past and their futures disappear amidst the rubble and destruction of this prolonged conflict,” UNICEF chief Anthony Lake said in a report published two years to the day after the Syrian conflict began.

Millions of kids are suffering and the world stands by watching. President Obama was willing to engage Libya to defeat the ruthless regime there. What is different here? Perhaps the fact that many terrorist groups are in support of the regime there and vice versa?

Kids need to know that their is hope in order for them to develop healthily and not get involved in the violence themselves. The hopelessness that these kids might take with them into adulthood will just perpetuate the cycle of animosity, cruel governments, and little chance for freedom.

As Christians we must pray, raise awareness, and if possible go to the Middle East to provide services that we can do. Please take this issue seriously. I will be doing some more research on ways or groups that are praying for this issue.
