This is a prayer that I have wrote since the occasions of the Clackamas Town Center shooting and the school shooting in Connecticut today:
Lord Jesus, we need your peace this Christmas season to permeate our nation. The violence of the last few days cannot go unnoticed, but forgive us for ignoring it in the implicit ways that we consume it through our televisions, video games, and music.
We know that there are many unspeakable acts of violence that occur everyday that go unreported or unconcerned for. Wars, mass shootings, and suicide bombings are realities all around the world. Help us to remember the victims and their families and provide them with safe places to grieve in our homes and churches so that they can have authentic connections with people who follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
We know that full peace will not come until the second advent of Jesus, so we pray that he would come quickly and that your Kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Until then, help us to share your gospel with those around us, and to lean on you for all the comfort and peace that transcends our understanding.
